Hybrid Adsorption Dryer (15 to 20000 Pcm)

Adsorption dryer

The Hybrid adsorption dryer is a solution designed to supply totally dry compressed air, with a dew point that can reach up to -100°C.

Some examples of applications that may require a negative dew point are: the manufacture of medicines, chemical products, electronic components such as optical fibers and chips, as well as critical instrumentation, steelmaking, nuclear reactors, the generation of very high purity gases, among others.

This dryer works by means of adsorption, a physical-chemical phenomenon in which gaseous water molecules are attracted to and retained on the surface of an adsorbent material.

The adsorbent material in an adsorption dryer has a very high power of attracting and retaining water molecules on its surface. After a while, this surface becomes saturated and needs to be regenerated.

With a capacity ranging from 15 to 20,000 PCM, this adsorption air dryer stands out for its efficiency and reliability, ensuring that dry air requirements are met continuously and effectively.

To allow adsorption and regeneration to be a continuous process, the Hybrid adsorption dryer has two towers, filled with adsorbent material.
While one tower adsorbs the water molecules, the other tower is regenerating, with air flows in opposite directions. An electronic control and valve system directs the flows and determines the adsorption and regeneration times.

Benefits

The use of an adsorption compressed air dryer guarantees several benefits, making it an ideal choice for demanding applications:

  • The Hybrid adsorption compressed air dryer uses Hybrid HD, a hybrid adsorbent material made of activated alumina and molecular sieve with a very high capacity for retaining water vapor molecules, both at low and high relative humidity rates.
  • Low air consumption and high energy efficiency reduce operating costs.
  • Operational simplicity, which makes the equipment easier to use and maintain.
  • The presence of the Mastercontrol panel, with TouchControl interface, guarantees precise monitoring of operating conditions.

Finally, the flexibility of the regeneration alternatives available allows the equipment to be adapted to different operational needs.

Applications

Adsorption dryers are used in a variety of industries and applications that require totally dry compressed air.

Sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals and petrochemicals are some examples of where it is necessary to use totally dry compressed air.

Frequently Asked Questions about Adsorption Dryers

The dew point range of the Hybrid adsorption dryer varies from -40°C to -100°C, offering exceptional flexibility to meet the specific requirements of each application.
Therefore, when choosing a dryer, it is essential to consider all the variables to ensure the optimum performance of your compressed air system.

The adsorption process in the adsorption dryer takes place when the water molecules present in the compressed air are attracted to and retained on the surface of an adsorbent material.

This material, usually composed of activated alumina and molecular sieve, has a high moisture retention capacity.

During operation, one tower is responsible for adsorbing moisture, while the other is regenerating, using a system of valves and electronic control that alternates the air flows allowing for a continuous cycle where dry compressed air is constantly produced.

Regeneration is very important because, after a certain time, the adsorber material reaches its maximum capacity and needs to be "cleaned" to ensure efficiency in the next adsorption cycle.

The Hybrid adsorption dryer offers five regeneration alternatives, allowing the equipment to adapt to different needs and operating conditions.
The options include:

Heaterless, uses only the heat generated during adsorption (an exothermic process) to heat and regenerate the adsorbent material in the saturated bed.
Vacuum Assisted, is similar to Heaterless, but has a vacuum pump that reduces the back pressure exerted by the atmosphere, neutralizing the attraction/adhesion forces of the adsorbent material.
Internally Heated, has an internal heating element (electric or steam) that heats the saturated bed to the regeneration temperature, at which point a small air flow is used to purge it.
Externally Heated, the regeneration air flow is heated by a heating element external to the dryer beds/towers.
Blower Purge, is similar to Externally Heated, but has a blower that captures the ambient air, heats it and directs it to the bed to be regenerated, eliminating the consumption of compressed air as regeneration air.

This versatility is one of the great advantages of the adsorption compressed air dryer, as it allows the most efficient regeneration method to be chosen for each specific application, always guaranteeing the best system performance.

The energy efficiency of the Hybrid adsorption dryer is guaranteed by a series of features designed to optimize energy consumption.
One of the main factors is the use of an advanced control system that automatically monitors and adjusts the adsorption and regeneration cycles, ensuring that energy is only used when necessary.
In addition, the choice of high-quality materials and components, combined with the design of the system, minimizes load losses and increases overall efficiency.
Metalplan's commitment to energy efficiency is evidenced by its ISO 50001 certification, which demonstrates adherence to best practices in energy management.

The Hybrid adsorption dryer is versatile and suitable for a wide range of industrial applications requiring ultra-dry compressed air.
It covers sectors such as pharmaceutical, food, chemical, petrochemical and automotive, where the presence of moisture can compromise product quality or affect critical processes.
It is also ideal for applications in packaging systems, where moisture can damage the integrity of materials.
With the ability to operate in different dew point ranges and flexibility in regeneration alternatives, the adsorption dryer is the perfect solution to meet the specific needs of each industry, guaranteeing reliable, high-quality performance in all operations.
